ICARUS - Supply chain and markets workshop postponed to October 2024

In the EU Horizon project ICARUS (funding code 958365 ), 17 partners are working under the coordination of SINTEF, Norway, on eco-efficient refining routes for secondary raw materials from the production of silicon blocks and wafers in order to open them up for demanding and high-quality markets. ICARUS thus supports the expected European growth in the necessary utilisation of high-quality secondary raw materials based on silicon and the auxiliary materials used in the process through optimised processing routes. The process waste, which is rich in high-purity silicon, for example, and is characterised by high energy consumption during production, is converted into high-quality secondary raw materials for various industrial applications The wafer production process is very energy-intensive and generates waste streams that still contain a considerable amount of silicon and other valuable materials such as graphite. Utilising these secondary raw material potentials reduces European dependence on imports and costs while improving the environmental balance.

Contents of the workshop

  •     What are the target markets?
  •     What are the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks associated with these markets?
  •     What works well within the individual supply chains? What are the challenges? (For example: Are there problems with the procurement of raw and auxiliary materials? Is there enough material available for the pilots?)
  •     What added value will this project create for the participants and Europe?
