Climate change – strategies for Bavarian trades
The project kick-off took place on 17 July at the bifa environmental institute. The three research partners – the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Munich University), the bifa environmental institute and the Handwerkskammer Schwaben (Swabian Chamber of Trade) – started the project together. The StMUV (Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection) is funding the project.
By 2019, practical strategies will be worked up for trades firms to adapt to climate change. Specifically, this means: First of all, the typical risks and opportunities of the industry will be plumbed, and then used to derive effective help.
For example, trades firms play a decisive role in building energy modernisation, the switch to environmentally friendly energy, products or production processes. On the other hand, rising temperatures or extreme weather conditions often have negative effects on employees, materials and products – two sides of climate change to which each trades firm can and must respond specifically.
As part of case studies, the participating trades firms are provided with regional climate data for their company location, to give them a realistic idea of the expected climate changes. Based on that, answers to the following questions are drawn up for each firm: How severely is the respective trades firm affected by climate change? What are the foreseeable risks and opportunities for the trades firm due to climate change? How can these be avoided or utilised?
Adaptation strategies especially tailored to the firms should help them to counter the consequences of climate change.
