Cross-industry and process resource use in paper mill locations

Augsburg, 15/01/2019

The production processes of the paper industry and established recycling cycles for paper products use raw materials highly efficiently and offer little development potential.

The objective of the environment pact project was therefore, to point out opportunities for greater local or regional value added through efficient and climate-friendly cross-industry use of resources and to work up analysis of the potential using the example of the Bavarian paper industry. Together with the paper industry and with the involvement of experts from other areas, various areas for action were identified and analysed.

The project results will be presented to the public for the first time in the presence of MD Dr Christian Barth, head official of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection (“Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Umwelt- und Verbraucherschutz”) on

29th January 2019, 10:30 – 16:30 in the

Papierfabrik UPM Plattling, Nicolausstr. 7, 94447 Plattling.

We will be presenting practical examples from the paper industry, a factory visit and project results on twelve different areas for action, from use of ash in the construction industry through to the recycling of paper cups as well as other interesting aspects.

The project was managed by bifa Umweltinstitut and was undertaken with the following project partners:

  • Verband Bayerischer Papierfabriken e.V. (VBP)
  • Verband der Bayerischen Papier, Pappe und Kunststoff verarbeitenden Industrie e.V. (VBPV)
  • Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTS)
The project undertaken within the framework of the Bavarian Environment Pact (Umweltpakt Bayern) was funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection (Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz).
