Carbon Dioxide Storage Act, the application of CO2 capture and storage (CCS) and utilisation (CCU), transport via pipelines yet to be built and offshore storage in Germany are to be made possible. The strategic focus for the use of CCS is also on emissions that are difficult or impossible to avoid, such as emissions from waste incineration plants.

What needs to be done?

This question was discussed in the workshop with over 30 participants, including many Bavarian operators of waste incineration plants. After a brief introduction of the association and its purpose by Dr Spiegel (CheMin GmbH), Prof. Dr.-Ing. W. Rommel (bifa Umweltinstitut GmbH) introduced the topic with his presentation.

Mr Gerald Guggenberger (Technical Director of Abfallverwertung Augsburg) presented the viewpoint of the waste incineration plant concerned. Prof. Dr.-Ing. R. Karpf (Technische Hochschule Mttelhessen, Gießen) and Dr. M. Pohl (Enverum GmbH, Dresden) contributed to lively discussions with their presentations. Other experts were Prof. Dr D. Vollprecht (University of Augsburg / Resource and Chemical Engineering) and Mr L. van Bree (Biogas-Fond GmbH).

The event not only offered interesting presentations and statements, but also encouraged an intensive exchange of information among the participants.
