Cross-industry and process resource use in papermill locations

This is the result of a two-year project within the scope of the Bavarian Environmental Pact (“Umweltpakt Bayern”). The project partners were bifa Umweltinstitut GmbH, the association of Bavarian paper factories (“Verband Bayerischer Papierfabriken e.V.”), the association of the Bavarian paper, cardboard and plastics processing industry (“Verband der Bayerischen Papier, Pappe und Kunststoff verarbeitenden Industrie e.V.”) and the paper foundation (“Papiertechnische Stiftung”). bifa was responsible for the project management.

This brochure presents the results of this project, in which the following potential was examined: What residual materials and intermediate products can be used qualitatively by companies in other industries? Where can process heat be used to heat or cool municipal and private properties? How can the capacity of power plants, wastewater treatment plants or other infrastructures be used even better across companies? What location advantages can the spatial proximity to a paper factory offer new companies moving into the area?

This brochure is intended to inspire companies and local municipalities of paper mills in Bavaria to check the possibilities described, so that energy and raw materials are used more efficiently in the future. Using the example of paper factories, it shows the diverse cooperation possibilities exist all around large production company locations.

The brochure, “Branchen- und prozessübergreifende Ressourcennutzung an Papierfabrikstandorten” (cross-industry and process resource use in paper mill locations) – is now available as a download.
